What is TERA?

TERA is an MMORPG which invites players into a graphically stunning world of fantasy. With its innovative true action combat system, TERA redefines the genre’s boundaries. Players must aim along their crosshairs to cast spells and execute attacks, demanding timing and precision, as well as strategic planning.

Created in the minds of gods, its fate in the hands of heroes – the world of TERA offers boundless gaming fun with a wide variety of challenges for PvE and PvP. Seven playable races and thirteen classes are available to choose from: play as a raging Berserker, a vengeful Reaper or a benevolent Priest, and experience breathtaking battles!

Small TERA Lexicon

Are you new to TERA? Here are the most important terms you should know:

  • BAMs, Big Ass Monsters = huge creatures with dangerous special attacks
  • Buff = positive status effects improving your character’s stats, e.g. faster movement speed from the Mystic’s aura
  • Debuff = negative status effects reducing your character’s stats, e.g. reduced movement speed from a boss skill
  • BG, Battleground = PvP maps where you play against other players in special missions, see also PvP
  • CU, Civil Unrest = guild combat system in TERA
  • DQ, Dungeon Queue, Dungeon Finder = a tool which makes it easier and faster to find a group in TERA
  • Class = you can choose between a variety of character classes in TERA, e.g. Ninjas and Berserkers
  • Race = your character can belong to a variety of different races in TERA, e.g. High Elves, Elins or Humans
  • DD, Damage Dealer = classes whose main purpose is to inflict high damage on enemies
  • Healer = classes whose main purpose is to heal damage taken, generally for a whole group
  • Tank = classes whose main purpose is to draw enemy attacks and soak damage
  • Guild Missions = you can complete special missions with your guild in TERA
  • Guild Skills = special skills become available to your guild in reward for good teamplay
  • True Action Combat = unique combat system where attacks must be aimed using the crosshair
  • Unreal Engine = TERA uses the Unreal Engine 3
  • iFrame, invincibility frame = special game mechanics which make your character invulnerable for a short period of time
  • IoD, Island of Dawn = high-level zone mainly for solo missions
  • Low skill = often used in combination with easy dungeons
  • NM, Normal Mode = many dungeons come in two different difficulty levels, normal being the easier of the two
  • HM, Hard Mode = many dungeons come in two different difficulty levels, hard being the more difficult of the two
  • MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online
  • MMOG = Massively Multiplayer Online Game
  • MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game
  • RPG = Role-Playing Game
  • Free2Play, F2P = free to play
  • WTB, Want to Buy = abbreviation used by players wanting to trade
  • WTS, Want to Sell = abbreviation used by players wanting to trade
  • WTT, Want to Trade = abbreviation used by players wanting to trade
  • PvP = Player versus Player
  • PvE, Player versus Environment = combat against monsters and NPCs
  • RvR, Raid versus Raid = alliances of whole groups of players fighting against one another
